The Olympus microscope currently has the 20x lens in the viewing position.
  • Select the 20x lens in the System Configuration window.
  • If Manual is not active, select Manual with a mouse click on the STAGE PARAM. button followed with a mouse click on the word Digital – this toggles the stage controller from Digital to Manual.
Whether to make measurements from the raw image or to modify the image is up to the operator. Some experimentation maybe necessary. If attempting to measure the distance between interfaces, using the Edge detect tool tool may be helpful.
To activate the this tool, mouse click on Edge detect.
First Select DIRECT measurement.
  1. Push Initiate Button
  2. An Image of a cross(+) will appear in the microstructure image. The color of the + is the color of the destination plane selected.
    1. Move the mouse to locate the + at one edge of the feature being measured.
    2. Depress and hold the center Mouse Button, and drag the + to the other side of the feature.

Review Procedure
  1. Move the mouse to locate the + at one edge of the feature being measured.
  2. Depress and hold the center Mouse Button, and drag the + to the other side of the feature.
  3. Release the center mouse button.
The measurement in micron-meters will appear on the measurement screen for the selected feature.

No image modifications were made.

The image is the stage micrometer, which is used to calibrate the lenses. Each small division is 10 μm.

Note that the recorded number is 200 μm.
Because the 20x lens is being used, the two direct measurements indicated by the two thin red lines should produce a measurement of 200 μm if the instrument is in calibration.
